This is the performance by the students of the ESCOLA SECUNDÁRIA DR. JORGE AUGUSTO CORREIA in Tavira, the result of the theatre workshop STAGED POEMS, by the association ARMAÇÃO DO ARTISTA, in the 6th edition of the BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR ÁLVARO DE CAMPOS, a program by Partilha Alternativa.

O nosso quotidiano nestes tempos estranhos é marcado pela convivência obrigatória entre vozes abafadas pelas máscaras que nos devem proteger do contágio do COVID19. Aos poucos vamos nos habituando, sem dar por isso, a falar mais alto e pausadamente, de forma a que os outros nos compreendam… ou, opcionalmente, vamos nos desligando da necessidade de entendimento claro das coisas. Ouvimos sussurros que confundimos com resmungos, procurando pistas no franzir dos olhos, para tentar perceber qual o estado do humor de quem nos fala… e perceber do que nos fala, o que nem sempre é perceptível , e então perguntamos o tempo todo… e nas ruas são esses os zumbidos que se ouvem, salpicados de perguntas, quase interjeições: “como?” “O quê?”, ” pode repetir?… por favor repita…”

Our daily lives in these strange times, are marked by the obligatory coexistece of voices muffled by the masks that are supposed to protect us from the contagion of COVID19. Gradually we get used, without realizing it, to speaking louder and more slowly, so that the others can understand us… or, instead, we disconnect ourselves from the need for a clear understanding of things. We hear whispers that we confuse with grumbling, and we look for clues in the eyes of whose who speak to us to try to únderstand at least what their mood is… and understand what he is saying to us, which is not always noticeable, and then we ask all the time… and in the streets the humming sounds are dotted with questions, almost interjections: “how is it?”, “what?”, “can you repeat?”… please repeat…
Lançamos um desafio às compositoras Inês Madeira e Sara Marita, ex-alunas de Luis Tinoco na Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa,para que compusessem uma peça musical que tivesse como recitatico o poema How Many Masks, de Fernando Pessoa.
We challenged the composers Inês Madeira and Sara Marita, former students of Luis Tinoco at the Lisbon Superior School of Music, to compose a musical piece that had the poem How Many Masks, by Fernando Pessoa, as a recitative.
O desafio foi lançado também ao ator Vitor Correia, que ministra a oficina POEMAS ENCENADOS na Escola Secundária de Tavira, para que criasse uma performance a partir dessa peça musical, onde as Vozes Abafadas são as dos seus alunos. A música será executada pelas suas compositoras, a mais de 300
km de distância, em Lisboa, através de um set de instrumentos eléctónicos.
The challange was extended to the actor Vitor Correias, who teaches the workshop STAGED POEMS at the Tavira High School, for him to create a performance based on this musical piece, where the Muffled Voices are those of his students. The instruments will be a set of electronic instruments played by the composers in Lisbon, more than 300km away.
O resultado será gravado num vídeo que estará passando em looping como parte integrante da exposição dos alunos das Escolas de Tavira na Casa das Artes de Tavira, nas duas últimas semanas de Novembro.
The result will be recorded in a video that will be exhibited in looping as part of the Tavira Schools students’ exhibition at Casa das Artes de Tavira, in the last two weeks of November.
O título é VOZES ABAFADAS E INSTRUMENTOS DISTANTES

Inês Madeira Lopes
Nascida em Setúbal, em 1999. Iniciou o seu percurso musical no Conservatório Regional de Setúbal, tendo estudado violino, viola d’arco e composição. Neste momento está a terminar a licenciatura em Composição na Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, com Carlos Caires, tendo estudado também com os compositores João Madureira, António Pinho Vargas e Luís Tinoco. Participou em masterclasses e conferências com Kaija Saariaho, Thomas Adès, Jaime Reis, John Chowning, Mario Mary, entre outros. Escreveu a peça para fagote solo “Reminiscências”, para a 34ª edição do Prémio Jovens Músicas, encomenda da Antena 2 – RTP.
Born in Setúbal in 1999, started her musical career at the Regional Conservatory of Setúbal, having studied violin, viola d’arco and composition classes. Currently finishing her degree in Composition at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, with Carlos Caires, having also studied with the composers João Madureira, António Pinho Vargas and Luís Tinoco. Participated in masterclasses and conferences with Kaija Saariaho, Thomas Adès, Jaime Reis, John Chowning, Mario Mary, among others. Wrote the piece for solo bassoon “Reminiscências”, for the 34th edition of the Young Music Award, commissioned by Antena 2 – RTP
