Toda a poesia – e a canção é uma poesia ajudada – reflete o que a alma não tem. Por isso a canção dos povos tristes é alegre e a canção dos povos alegres é triste. O fado, porém, não é alegre nem triste. É um episódio de intervalo. Formou-o a alma portuguesa quando não existia e desejava tudo sem ter força para o desejar.

A associação cultural Fado com História, fundada em Tavira por Virgílio Lança e o saudoso Miguel Drago, que diariamente desde sua inauguração a 5 de dezembro de 2014  apresenta sessões de Fado ao vivo para contar a história deste Património Cultural Imaterial da Humanidade, apresenta canções publicadas na coletânea Fernando Pessoa – O Fado e a Alma Portuguesa editado pela Warner Music Portugal e a SevenMuses MusicBooks com o apoio da Casa Fernando Pessoa e Museu do Fado. São canções da autoria de compositores portugueses, exclusivamente sobre poemas de Pessoa e que passarão a integrar o repertório do Fado com História.

Fado is the Portuguese Soul

All poetry – and song is supported poetry – reflects what the soul does not have. That is why the song of sad people is happy and the song of happy people is sad. Fado, however, is neither happy nor sad. It is something in between. The Portuguese soul created it when it did not exist, and desired everything when it did not have the strength to desire it.

The cultural association Fado with History was founded in Tavira by Virgílio Lanca and the sadly missed Miguel Drago, has presented daily live since the 5th December 2014 Fado sessions to tell the story of this Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It will present songs from the Fernando Pessoa collection Fernando Pessoa – Fado and the Portuguese Soul, published by Warner Music Portugal and SevenMuses Music Books, with the support of Casa Fernando Pessoa and the Museum of Fado. They are songs written by Portuguese composers exclusively using poems by Fernando Pessoa and will become part of the repertory of Fado with History.
