Toda a poesia – e a canção é uma poesia ajudada – reflete o que a alma não tem. Por isso a canção dos povos tristes é alegre e a canção dos povos alegres é triste. O fado, porém, não é alegre nem triste. É um episódio de intervalo. Formou-o a alma portuguesa quando não existia e desejava tudo sem ter força para o desejar.

All poetry – and song is supported poetry – reflects what the soul does not have. That is why the song of sad people is happy and the song of happy people is sad. Fado, however, is neither happy nor sad. It is something in between. The Portuguese soul created it when it did not exist, and desired everything when it did not have the strength to desire it.

O Fado com História é um projeto iniciado em Tavira a Dezembro de 2014 por Virgílio Lança e o saudoso Miguel Drago, como uma ação de divulgação deste património português aos turistas que visitam Tavira. A apresentação, que inclui um filme explicativo e uma performamce ao vivo, vem sendo considerada um ponto alto e incontornável pelos turistas que visitam a cidade.

Este ano o Fado com História participa da FESTA DOS ANOS DE ÁLVARO DE CAMPOS incluindo, todos os sábados de Outubro e Novembro, no concerto que dá na Igreja da Misericórdia às 15h15, um fado composto para um poema de Fernando Pessoa.

Fado com História is a project founded in Tavira in December 2014 by Virgílio Lança and the late Miguel Drago, to present this Portuguese heritage to tourists visiting Tavira. The program, which includes an explanatory film and a live performance, is considered a highlight and unavoidable for visitors to the city.

This year Fado com História participates in the BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR ÁLVARO DE CAMPOS by including one poem by Fernando Pessoa set to fado music in the concert given every Saturday in October and November, at the Church of Misericórdia at 3:15 pm.
