The end of inferior art is to please, the end of middle-brow art is to elevate, the end of superior art is to liberate. But middle-brow art, if its end is to elevate, also has the end of pleasing as much as it can; and superior art, if its end is to liberate, also has the end of pleasing and elevating as much as it can, being [.....].

Elevating and liberating are not the same thing. Being elevated, we feel superior to ourselves; however, we are removed from ourselves. Being liberated, we feel superior within ourselves, owners of and not emigrants from ourselves. Liberation is inner elevation, like growing rather than rising.
In Páginas de Estética e de Teoria Literárias. Fernando Pessoa

This project, coordinated by Ana Cristina Matias, and culminating in the exhibition of visual art, stems from work developed in class by Portuguese and Art teachers and a printmaking workshop provided by the Bartolomeu dos Santos Workshop. For this exhibition, the pupils individually chose extracts from the work of Álvaro de Campos for free illustration or interpretation.

CAT – Casa das Artes de Tavira: Founded in 1985 in response to a challenge by Vitor Pomar to a group of friends to create in Tavira a space for the production of cultural activities. This they did, and from the first exhibition that summer CAT has never stopped and has withstood grave adversities such as the flood that destroyed its collection in 1990. According to José Delgado Martins, the most important secret to this sustainability lies in the transmission of purpose from the founders to later generations.

OBS – Bartolomeu dos santos Workshop. This is a space for artistic creation in the realm of plastic arts, with special emphasis on printmaking. OBS managed to restore an olive press so that it became a place of national importance by applying the values of teaching, dedication and professionalism that were upheld by its founder, the artist Bartolomeu dos Santos. Thus its aim is to contribute to creation and nourishment within the public through the diversification and decentralisation of the nation's artistic resources.

ESJAC – Dr Jorge Augusto Correia Secondary School, Tavira. In the 1970s, the school functioned in Tavira as a part of the Faro High School linked to the technical school. After 25th April 1975, it became the Tavira polyvalent school and finally the Dr Augusto Correia Secondary School, in homage to the medical doctor and politician who was involved in activities related to education and culture. The school library (nutrient of the mind) has as one of its aims spreading information on and promoting the life of the school, and in this context has coordinated the project.
